A new Airports Council International (ACI) forecast, which highlights future traffic development from the perspective of the airport industry, predicts a tripling of current cargo volumes within the next 20 years. Strong December activity at Rickenbacker Airport closed 2006 with an annual increase. Rickenbacker reported a 19.7 percent increase in December cargo to close the year at over 250 million pounds (113.400 tonnes), a 0.7 percent increase over the 2005 figure. Rickenbacker also handled a 32.3 percent increase in commercial cargo aircraft landings during 2006. Los Angeles World Airports reported a 1.6 percent drop in cargo and mail handled during 2006 to 2,103,082 tonnes compared to the previous year.
