Brussels’ cargo volumes rise sharply on back of 31% maindeck growth
In September, Brussels Airport saw cargo volumes rise sharply in September, as it did in August. The 8.5 per cent growth compared to September last year is due mainly to the full-cargo segment, which has risen by 31.2 per cent. Cargo flights and private flights handled by General Aviation have resumed at Brussels Airport as of today, but passenger flights are suspended until at least Friday, the airport said in a statement. Brussels Airport (BRU) saw freight volumes declining by 2.4 per cent in January 2016 compared with last year, as a result of the ongoing impact of the departure of Ethiopian Cargo, which did not obtain the necessary traffic rights for Belgium and ceased operations to the airport in the fourth quarter last year. Brussels enjoys robust 7.8% cargo growth in 2015
Brussels Airport wrapped up 2015 with a year of strong growth on both the passenger side (up 7.0 per cent) and cargo with a full 7.8 per cent growth over the previous year thanks to the full freighter and express segments.
