United Airlines has made a firm order for 25 of Airbus’ A350 extra-wide bodied jets worth an estimated US$6 billion, fulfilling a commitment signed in December, the European aircraft manufacturer said recently. AMERICAS: Boeing happy with 747-8F testing progress
Boeing 747 programme vice president and general manager Mo Yahyavi has said current testing on the 747-8F is proceeding well after completing initial air worthiness testing in mid-March. Yahyavi also acknowledged that a slight redesign of the landing gear door will be required to address aerodynamic issues when the gear is lowered and the flaps are fully deployed for landing. The US Department of Homeland Security could be years away from achieving its objective of 100 per cent screening for air cargo carried in the bellies of passenger aircraft. Strong performance in charter and scheduled air cargo markets helped Volga-Dnepr Group out-perform the industry average traffic figures in 2009, by a wide margin.
