The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced that Chile became the 27th e-freight country worldwide when IATA e-freight for exports went live in early June at Santiago Arturo Merino Benitez Airport (SCL). Lufthansa Cargo and DHL Express have announced their joint venture air cargo airline, Aerologic is increasing capacity between Europe and Asia, citing consistently high demand. Initially the cargo carrier will offer two weekday flights per week between Leipzig, Shanghai and Seoul. AMERICAS: ABX Air parent may expand fleet
Wilmington, US-based Air Transport Services Group Inc. (ATSG) has said it may expand its fleet by acquiring three B767-300 aircraft. ATSG is the parent corporation for ABX Air whose biggest customer was DHL Express before the German express and logistics company decided to pull out of domestic operations after years of losses. German mail and logistics company Deutsche Post DHL saw first quarter net profit rise 80 per cent to €1.7 billion compared to €944 million in the same quarter last year, thanks to a €1.4 billion one-off gain on the sale of its stake in the Postbank banking unit.
