National B747F crash from shifting cargo: NTSB
A National Airlines B747-400 freighter that crashed seconds after takeoff from Bagram, Afghanistan, in April 2013, was likely caused by inadequate restraint of large military vehicles being carried onboard which broke loose and went through a bulkhead disabling two hydraulic systems and making the aircraft uncontrollable, according to a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation. Thai transport minister not confident on FAA audit
Thailand’s Transport Minister Prajin Juntong admitted this week that he was not sure that all the necessary steps taken by the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) to improve aviation safety standards supervision will pass the approval of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). AEI announces B737-800SF launch customer
Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI) has announced that GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) will be the launch customer for the AEI B737-800SF programme. GECAS plans to convert up to 20 of its Boeing 737-800NG passenger aircraft to freighters. The first aircraft is scheduled for conversion starting in 2016 and will achieve FAA supplemental type certification (STC) in 2017. FAA fines FedEx for hazmat violations
The US Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has fined FedEx Corp. US$58,600 for allegedly violating Hazardous Materials Regulations. The FAA alleges FedEx in June 2014 accepted a box containing 1.7 liters of flammable liquid for air transportation that lacked the proper shipping name of the hazardous materials, the agency alleges.
