FedEx Trade Networks, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp, has expanded its global presence with the addition of ten new freight forwarding offices in Asia. The new facilities are located in Singapore, Taipei, Taiwan, and in Beijing, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Xiamen, and Dalian, China. Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd announced its tonnage throughput for May 2009 was 37,039 tonnes, down 31 per cent compared with the same month last year with AAT general manager, Planning & Services, Nelson Lee pointing to the opening of Fedex’s new Asia-Pacific Hub at Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport as playing a significant part in the weak tonnage performance. China throws up barrier to int’l express carriers
A new Chinese postal law may make life difficult for international express carriers operating in China to expand their business. The Chinese government on enacted a new postal law on 24 April that bars foreign companies from delivering domestic express letters.
