Hong Kong's government has approved a third runway for the city’s international airport. Expected to open by 2023, the HK$141.5 billion (US$18.2 billion) project will be funded from internal funds, borrowings and user fees, including a possible HK$180 (US$23.20) additional passenger fee until the end of construction. HKIA sees robust growth in cargo volumes
Air cargo throughput at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) registered growth of 10.3 per cent to 659,000 tonnes during the first two months of the year. The combined growth of cargo throughput for the first two months was mainly attributed to 12 per cent year-on-year growth in exports and 10 per cent growth in transshipments. HKIA sets record for cargo in November
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) set a new monthly record for cargo tonnage throughput in November 2014. During the month, cargo volume rose by 5.5 per cent year on year to reach 421,000 tonnes. Continued growth was also seen in other traffic categories during the month, in which HKIA handled 5.1 million passengers and 32,920 flight movements, registering growth of 5.4 per cent and 4.0 per cent, respectively, over the same period last year.
