Venezuela still blocking US$4.1b owed to airlines

July 28, 2014 by PLA Editor

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) called on the Venezuelan government to honor the commitment it made in March to permit airlines to repatriate, in full and at fair exchange rates, airline funds being blocked in the country. While the government has permitted the repatriation of US$424 million shared among a number of airlines, continuing sales in the country have seen the total amount owed grow to a staggering $4.1 billion. Airlines can no longer afford the risk of not … [Read more...] about Venezuela still blocking US$4.1b owed to airlines

Air cargo continues fragile recovery: IATA

December 4, 2013 by PLA Editor

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released figures showing a small improvement in air freight growth in October, with global freight tonne kilometers (FTK) up four per cent compared with October 2012, with growth in all regions except Africa. IATA said the gradual expansion continues a trend that began in the third quarter as air freight markets have responded to better economic confidence and improved consumer demand.  However, performance varies significantly by region, … [Read more...] about Air cargo continues fragile recovery: IATA

GACAG outlines air cargo security needs

December 3, 2013 by PLA Editor

Viable, effective air cargo screening technologies are an essential part of a multilayered, risk- and threat-based approach to air cargo security, says a new position paper from the Global Air Cargo Advisory Group (GACAG).  While stating its support of ICAO Annex 17 and its guidance material as the baseline documents for air cargo security, GACAG encourages ICAO members to use standard international codes for screening technologies and protocols. It also urges ICAO to develop global … [Read more...] about GACAG outlines air cargo security needs
