Japan Airlines becomes first Japanese airline to introduce biomass-based cargo stretch films using the mass balance method

Starting in October 2025, JAL will sequentially introduce cargo stretch films made from biomass materials using the mass balance method at domestic airports. This marks the first initiative within Japan’s aviation industry. Compared to conventional methods, the mass balance method reduces concerns about raw material shortages and requires no large-scale capital investment. Following the launch of cargo.one in Japan earlier this month, Japan Airline’s cargo division has announced an international partnership with the air cargo booking marketplace as the airline looks to prioritize transactions online and accelerate its digital transormation. JAL Cargo powers domestic service with CHAMP API

Japan Airlines (JAL) has implemented CHAMP’s API Gateway solution to power a new domestic air cargo service. CHAMP Cargosystems said this will enable the carrier to compete with other modes of transport and seamless integrate air and land options for its customers.
