Plummeting volumes of imports from Asia sent cargo traffic at San Francisco International Airport plunging 36 per cent in December, giving the major trans-Pacific gateway a 14.4 per cent decline in overall freight business in 2008. With the inaugural Emirates non-stop flight between Dubai and Los Angeles now underway, Emirates SkyCargo is anticipating a robust cargo route. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the 12th busiest cargo airport in the world, handling 1.9 million tonnes of cargo last year. Vietnam : Vietnam, US open cargo skies a bright spot

Vietnam and the US have agreed to the terms of an Open Skies agreement that will effectively eliminate restrictions on air cargo routes linking the two countries. The new pact will give air carriers from both countries the go-ahead to carry cargo to or from third countries.
