Azerbaijan-based Silk Way West Airlines has taken delivery of its third B747-8F (with two more on order) with the carrier saying it will use the new freighter to launch services to Singapore (SIN) and Komatsu (KMQ) in Japan. Komatsu is a major manufacturing centre for construction equipment and woven fabric, including carbon fibre used in an increasing number of industries like automotive and aerospace. Singapore appoints new director general of CAAS
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has announced Shum Jin-Chyi Kevin will be appointed as the director-general of Singapore aviation regulatory body with effect from 2 August 2015. He will take over from Yap Ong Heng who will be retiring from the Administrative Service. Mr Shum, 44, is currently deputy secretary (international) in the Ministry of Transport. Garuda increases Jakarta-Amsterdam frequency
Garuda Indonesia will reduce its flights between Jakarta and London Gatwick in favour of additional flights to Amsterdam. Operated on the B777-300ER, the airline will increase flight frequency of the Jakarta - Amsterdam route from five times to six times a week starting from 11 July 2015. DHL Express announced plans to increase its investments in physical infrastructure and services in Thailand to 180 million baht (EUR 4.9 million) in 2015 to deliver business growth and enhance service quality. Airbus has begun final assembly of the first A350-900 for Singapore Airlines at its facilities in Toulouse, France. The aircraft is the first of 70 A350 XWBs ordered by the airline and is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2016. The A350 XWB will form a major part of the future Singapore Airlines fleet and will be operated on the carrier’s medium and long-haul routes.
