Ahlex – Aviation Hub for Learning & Experience becomes the new standard for aviation training

December 6, 2024 by PLA Editor

After two years of intensive work, Ahlex has become a reality – a hub where the future of aviation takes flight. Nestled in the heart of Brussels Airport, Ahlex champions talent development through innovative learning experiences while fostering collaboration and connection. Aviation professionals here unlock groundbreaking skills and explore fresh opportunities for growth. Spanning 4,200 m², the facility boasts state-of-the-art training spaces, an inspiring experience center, and cutting-edge immersive technologies – offering all the tools needed to shape the aviation of tomorrow.
Ahlex: A new vision, space, name, and logo
After two years of intensive work, Ahlex has come to life. What began as a small-scale idea has evolved into a state-of-the-art training hub equipped with everything needed to excel. The result: 14 classrooms, a large practice hall, a spacious event venue, 9 meeting rooms, numerous workstations, and as an absolute highlight—an innovative experience center. This bold concept and renovated building called for a fresh identity. Aviato Academy is now Ahlex – the Aviation Hub for Learning & Experience. The tagline, “Where Learning Meets Innovation,” encapsulates the essence of this transformation. By blending hands-on learning methods with cutting-edge immersive technologies, Ahlex delivers a comprehensive platform for both learning and experience.

A sustainable and innovative initiative: Supported by Brussels Airport Company and the EU
Ahlex became a reality thanks to the financial support of Brussels Airport Company, which quickly recognized the transformative potential of this initiative. The airport’s backing enabled a sustainable restoration of the building, incorporating roof and façade insulation, rooftop solar panels, rainwater tanks for sanitary use, the greening of paved areas, and the creation of a wadi for water management.

“At Brussels Airport, we’re proud to be at the heart of an ecosystem that generates 30,000 direct jobs, each requiring specialized and sometimes highly technical skills. The opening of a state-of-the-art training center on our site is a real asset in supporting our employees and the talents of our ecosystem in their development. This project is also fully in line with our ambition for sustainable development. By integrating sustainable solutions into the renovation of our site’s infrastructure, we are showing that innovation, excellence in training and respect for the environment can go hand in hand”, comments Arnaud Feist – CEO Brussels Airport Company.

Additionally, the state-of-the-art facilities were made possible through co-financing from the European Union. Ahlex stands out as a forward-thinking training center, embodying both innovation and sustainability.

Futureproof skills for tomorrow’s aviation: Learn, experience, and collaborate
Ahlex is built on two interconnected pillars. The Learn & Develop pillar focuses on equipping aviation professionals with futureproof skills to navigate the challenges of tomorrow. Whether through e-learning, instructor-led classroom sessions, immersive simulations, hands-on practical exercises in a safe and controlled setting, or a blend of these methods—Ahlex delivers efficient, results-driven training. The use of immersive technologies and the creation of secure learning environments amplify both impact and learning outcomes.

In just one day, participants move seamlessly from theory to practice, applying their newfound knowledge in a virtual reality environment.

Simultaneously, the Connect & Collaborate pillar remains a cornerstone of Alex’s approach, fostering effortless knowledge sharing and collaboration to drive collective growth and innovation.

“Today, I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together. What began as a small project has evolved into a groundbreaking concept that redefines learning. With Ahlex, we are enhancing the appeal of airport careers and making training tangible and practical. Through advanced technology, immersive training, and a secure learning environment, we deliver maximum impact and measurable results,” said Isabelle Borli, General Manager of Ahlex. “Whether you’re here to network, develop your skills, or forge new connections, Ahlex is the place where ideas take flight!”

With its innovative approach, Ahlex is reshaping training and co-creation in the aviation industry.

Although newly launched, Ahlex builds on a strong foundation. Over five years of operations at the airport, Aviato Academy had already reached nearly 36,000 students through classroom training and facilitated over 83,000 e-learning completions. Its client base has grown to include almost 200 companies. With this renewed momentum and expanded services, Ahlex is poised for continued growth and dedicated to creating lasting value for the aviation sector. The platform will play a pivotal role in equipping aviation professionals with futureproof skills and preparing the industry for the challenges of tomorrow.

“The Aviation Hub stands as a shining example of public and private funding coming together to deliver innovative solutions for the aviation sector. With Europe’s vital support, the industry has weathered the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. This project co-financed by the EU underscores the European Union’s commitment to driving tangible progress in its regions.” Says Loredana von Buttlar – Head of Unit Belgium, France and Luxembourg, Directorate General for Regional and Urban Policy, European Commission.
