Frankfurt Airport (FRA) welcomed approximately 63.2 million passengers in 2025. This represented year-on-year growth of around 2.6 percent. European traffic at Germany’s biggest airport was up 3.7 percent. The strongest performing destinations were in Southern and Southeastern Europe (up 6.4 percent). Also among the beneficiaries of the growth in Europe were Czechia (up 21.8 percent) and Norway (up 10.4 percent). Intercontinental destinations rose by a more modest 0.6 percent. Thailand was a standout performer, increasing by 35.4 percent. Middle East traffic benefited from the resumption of flights with Israel (up 40.4 percent) and Lebanon (up 34.6 percent).
A total of 301 destinations served from Frankfurt
Over the full year, flights operated by a total of 94 airlines served 301 destinations in 96 countries. In 2025, Frankfurt was the leading European airport in terms of hub connectivity, providing the most comprehensive offering of destinations to connecting passengers for direct onward travel.

The international business has continued to set the pace, with some of our global airports even achieving new passenger records. Following comprehensive capacity expansions in Lima and Antalya, the foundations for further growth at the biggest airports have been laid. The German market has continued to remain a laggard in Europe when it comes to the recovery of aviation traffic since the coronavirus pandemic. This has also affected FRA: while European competitors have been setting new passenger records, in 2025 Frankfurt remained around ten percent below pre-pandemic levels. By passing several relief measures, the German Federal Government has taken the first step towards reducing the burden on our industry. However, more is needed if Germany is to catch up to the competition. Sweden’s example shows what kind of growth surges are possible if aviation taxes are completely abolished.”
Cargo volumes in Frankfurt (comprising airfreight and airmail) increased by 1.1 percent in 2025 to around 2.1 million metric tons. The number of aircraft movements climbed by 4.4 per cent, to 460,272 takeoffs and landings. Accumulated maximum takeoff weights (or MTOWs) were around 28.5 million metric tons. This represented an increase of 2.5 percent compared with 2024.
Positive growth dynamic continues in December
In the last month of 2025, passenger volumes at FRA were roughly 4.8 million. This represented a significant increase of 5.3 percent. Cargo volumes rose to 173,610 metric tons (up 2.6 percent). The number of aircraft movements increased by 4.2 per cent to 34,711 takeoffs and landings. At around 2.2 million metric tons, total MTOWs in December were around 2.2 percent higher than in the same month of 2024.
International Group airports achieve growth and set new records
Fraport’s global network of airports recorded growth during the full year 2025. Slovenia’s Ljubljana Airport (LJU) achieved an increase of 10.6 percent, taking its total to 1.6 million passengers. In December alone, LJU served 101,803 passengers (up 18.7 percent).
Due to an extraordinary effect, Fraport’s two Brazilian airports, Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA), recorded an increase of 43.2 percent, serving a combined total of approximately 13.7 million passengers in 2025. Traffic had been negatively impacted in 2024 by massive floods around Porto Alegre and the subsequent operational restrictions that the airport faced for several months. Combined traffic at the two Brazilian airports was around 1.3 million passengers in December (up 30.8 percent).
Passenger numbers at Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru increased by 4.1 percent to a new record of approximately 25.5 million travelers during 2025. In December, LIM welcomed around 2.2 million passengers (up 4.3 percent).
Fraport’s 14 regional airports in Greece also set a new record. Total passenger volumes at the Greek gateways rose by 3.0 percent on 2024 levels, to roughly 37.1 million passengers. In December, traffic at the Greek airports increased to 880,683 passengers (up 9.4 percent).
In Bulgaria, the two coastal airports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) recorded a combined increase of 10.4 percent to 3.7 million passengers. In December, combined volumes at the two Bulgarian airports were up a hefty 40.5 percent, to 109,873 passengers.
Passenger volumes at Antalya Airport (AYT) on the Turkish Riviera continued to advance in 2025, setting a new record of around 39.0 million passengers. When compared against 2024 figures, this reflected growth of 2.3 percent. In December alone, AYT recorded growth of 6.4 percent, with roughly 1.1 million passengers.
Fraport: overall numbers up
Overall passenger volumes at Fraport’s actively managed airports increased in 2025 to 183.7 million passengers (up 5.3 percent). In the reporting month of December, around 10.4 million passengers used Fraport airports. This represented 8.6 percent year-on-year growth.
