SAP has denied reports accusing its software as being the root cause of the problems with the implementation of a new logistics software system at DHL Global Forwarding. Profit at Deutsche Post DHL group plunged 90 per cent in Q3 2015 as it wrote off €345 million (US$365 million) from a failed attempt to upgrade the software system for its freight forwarding network.

Dubbed the New Forwarding Environment (NFE), the upgraded software for DHL’s Global Forwarding division was to enable a variety of new capabilities, including better shipment visibility through improved capture, management and display of operational milestones, and a reduction of paperwork through greater use of a document management system.

Recent reports had suggested there is a connection between software provider SAP and problems with the implementation of a new logistics system at DHL. SAP released a statement on its website in late November to clarify that it’s not to blame. “These statements regarding SAP are incorrect,” the company said. “SAP was not commissioned by DHL as general contractor and SAP software was not the root cause of the problems.”
