Swissport has officially inaugurated a new 8,000-sqm cargo facility near Vienna Airport and is leading the way with its own sustainable initiatives.
The state-of-the-art building, its second facility in the Austrian capital, features a 900,000-kWh photovoltaic system as well as a dedicated electric truck that shuttles cargo between the new facility and Swissport’s on-airport cargo center without restrictions.
“We have invested in this state-of-the-art 8,000 sqm air cargo center to support our growth ambitions in forwarder handling, and of course to serve existing and new airline customers with an even better product,” says Dirk Goovaerts, Swissport’s Global Cargo Chair.
“We are very excited to more than double our capacity in Vienna and now have the infrastructure in place to support our vertical integration plans.”
The company has partnered with the likes of Mercedes, Siemens, XL Forwarding & Transports and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Climate Action in pioneering e-mobility in Vienna’s air cargo sector.
