The Stifel Logistics Confidence Index for July has made a slight gain in July but continues the month-by-month fluctuations that have been occurring through much of this year. Since February the overall Index (air and sea freight combined) has increased one month and then declined the next reaching its high so far this year in May at 57.9. Cargolux welcomes 10th B747-8 freighter
Cargolux Airlines International will take delivery of its 10th B747-8 freighter from Boeing on 25 July. The aircraft, named ‘City of Contern’, is scheduled to leave Boeing’s Paine Field in Seattle on 24 July and after stopovers at Seattle Tacoma and Calgary, where the new freighter picks up a load of cargo, it will arrive in Luxembourg on 25 July. Malaysia Airlines releases MH17 cargo manifest
Malaysia Airlines has released the cargo manifest and air waybill for its flight MH17, the B777-200 extended range aircraft that crashed in eastern Ukraine on 17 July. There is no indication that any of the cargo could have caused a catastrophic failure of the aircraft, lending credence to the theory that it was shot down with a missile. The Malaysia Airlines B777-200ER which crashed in eastern Ukraine on Thursday killing all 298 persons aboard was shot down by militants, according to a Ukrainian interior ministry official who was quoted by Interfax-Ukraine news agency. AirAsia X, the long haul affiliate of Asia’s largest low cost airline, has signed a Memorandum of Understand (MOU) with Airbus for 50 A330-900neo aircraft.
