Germany drops ATC privatisation bid
Germany is set to drop plans to privatise state-owned air traffic control firm Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS), Reuters reported. Quoting the weekly German news magazine Der Spiegel, the report said the German cabinet would formally abandon the bid, which had already been blocked by President Horst Koehler in 2006. A faulty altimeter played a part in the Turkish crash last week near Amsterdam's Schipol airport which killed nine people, according to investigators. They said similar shutdowns had occurred twice before on the same plane and were overruled by the pilots, and warned its maker Boeing and any airlines using 737 models to be vigilant.
