Personal computer shipments in Asia Pacific, a key airfreight commodity, are growing at the lowest level since 2002, according to the latest statistics from Gartner. Singapore Airlines cuts flights as load factors fall
Singapore Airlines (SIA) saw its cargo load factor for December drop 6.8 percentage points to 55.2 per cent from 62 per cent a year earlier while passenger load factor dropped 4.4 percentage points to 79.9 per cent from a year earlier. As a result of the falling demand the carrier is cancelling more than 200 flights from now until the end of March. Indonesian-registered, Sriwijaya Air commenced flight operations at Singapore Changi Airport¡¯s Terminal 2 this week with 14 weekly scheduled flights between Singapore and Jakarta. Established in 2003, Sriwijaya operates a fleet of 14 B737-200s, three B737-300s and one B737-400. Frankfurt cargo down 25% in December
Freight traffic at Frankfurt airport dropped by 25 per cent in December from a year ago - the third successive monthly decline at Europe¡¯s largest air cargo hub - as the global economic downturn slashed German exports.
