Modal shift to sea is reversing says Drewry

AEI announces B737-800SF launch customer
Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI) has announced that GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) will be the launch customer for the AEI B737-800SF programme. GECAS plans to convert up to 20 of its Boeing 737-800NG passenger aircraft to freighters. The first aircraft is scheduled for conversion starting in 2016 and will achieve FAA supplemental type certification (STC) in 2017. SkyLease Cargo applies for HK rights
North Carolina-based SkyLease Cargo has applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for exemption authority to operate scheduled cargo (property and mail) flights between the US and Hong Kong via intermediate points and beyond to points in third countries. The carrier said it intends to operate a 2x weekly service from Miami International to Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok via Tokyo Narita and returning via Anchorage Ted Stevens.
