Boeing reports $1.6 billion loss in Q3

The Boeing Co’s troubled 787 and 747-8 programmes, along with the global economic recession dragged down its third-quarter earnings, causing the company to report a US$1.6 billion loss Wednesday. “We look forward to getting the 787 and 747-8 in the air soon and moving forward with flight test and certification for these two important programmes,” said Jim McNerney, Boeing’s chief executive. Boeing announces revised 787 schedule

The first test flight of Boeing’s long-delayed 787 Dreamliner passenger plane will happen by the end of 2009, some two years behind schedule, the company has said. Boeing also said it expected to deliver its first Dreamliner in the fourth quarter of 2010, compared with an original delivery date of May 2008. Boeing finalises Vought purchase for 787s

Boeing announced the conclusion of its acquisition of the business and operations conducted by Vought Aircraft Industries at its South Carolina facility, where a key structure for the 787 Dreamliner is built. The newly acquired facility, located in North Charleston, will be called Boeing Charleston and will be managed by the 787 programme as a wholly owned subsidiary. Dreamliner moves to flight line for testing

Boeing's 787 Dreamliner will finally take to the skies later this quarter following its move out of the hangar and onto the flight line last week. Fuel testing - the first in the next phase of extensive checks the airplane must undergo - will begin in the next few days, according to Boeing.
