Faced with ongoing drop in load factors, excess capacity and falling yields, Singapore Airlines (SIA) has started preliminary talks to get its passenger plane pilots to take voluntary no-pay leave. SINGAPORE: SIA cargo and pax numbers continue slide
Singapore Airlines’ cargo volumes for February slid by 16.9 per cent to just below 80,000 tonnes, year-on-year, with SIA filling 56.7 per cent of available freight space. This was down 5.5 percentagepoints from last year. In the same month SIA carried just 1.18 million passengers, a 20.2 per cent drop from the same month a year earlier. NORTH KOREA: N. Korea warn away carriers from its skies
The United Nations’ International Civil Aviation Organisation called on North Korea last month to retract its threat against South Korean passenger planes. The North said it could not guarantee the safety of South Korean passenger jets flying near its airspace if Seoul continued with its plans to conduct 12 days of joint military drills with the US in March. JAPAN: FedEx MD-11 crashes while landing at Narita
A FedEx cargo aircraft en route from China has crashed this morning while attempting to land at Tokyo’s Narita airport in strong winds, bursting into flames and killing two pilots on board.
