DHL Express to slash 600 US jobs

In a bid to cut costs and shore up its shaky US express business which is facing immense pressure from more entrenched competitors, Fedex and UPS, DHL Express USA recently announced plans to reduce its workforce by nearly 600 employees. Blue Dart seeks more space

Indian air express and courier firm Blue Dart is looking to add new cargo facilities and expand existing ones at major domestic airports as demand soars. The company is setting up a 1,000 square metre temporary facility at Hyderabad Airport at a cost of about INR250 million (US$6.2 million), which would be operational by end of March 2008. AeroLogic unveiled

German airline Lufthansa (LH) Cargo and the DHL Aviation division of mail and logistics group Deutsche Post have settled on the new brand name of their 50/50 cargo joint venture. The JV, formerly known as NewCo has been named AeroLogic. The cargo newcomer will be airborne in April 2009 and service 17 global destinations, among them Singapore, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Dubai, Mumbai and destinations in the US. With a healthy start from its foray into the cargo sector, China's first private sector airline and first carrier to operate dedicated freighters, Tianjin-based OKAY Airways, is now expanding rapidly as itbuilds its passenger capacity. UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch released a Special Bulletin indicating that its investigation into last month's accident involving a British Airways 777-200 at London Heathrow is centred on the fuel pumps and not the engines.
