Boeing has started final assembly of the 787-9 Dreamliner at its South Carolina facility. The team began joining large fuselage sections of the newest 787 Nov. 22 on schedule. SMBC places $8.5B Boeing order
Boeing and SMBC Aviation Capital announced an order for 80 737 MAX 8s, valued at more than US$8.5 billion at list prices. The deal is the largest single order for 737 MAXs from a leasing company. Garuda Indonesia has ordered 50 B737 MAX 8s, valued at US$4.9 billion. Boeing said that the carrier will purchase 46 737 MAX 8s and convert existing orders for four 737-800s to 737 MAX 8s. This revitalisation programme is due to the end of the lease term for the airline’s existing 12-year-average B737-800NG aircraft. Boeing projects air cargo traffic will grow at an annual rate of 4.7 per cent over the next 20 years, with global air freight traffic expected to more than double by 2033.
