Cargo flights and private flights handled by General Aviation have resumed at Brussels Airport as of today, but passenger flights are suspended until at least Friday, the airport said in a statement. Brucargo landside has been cleared since yesterday and cargo flights were given a green light today following the clearance of Brucargo airside. Cargo security screening has reportedly been stepped up following the attacks with ‘known shipper’ cargo now also subjected to security screening and … [Read more...] about Cargo ops resume at Brussels Airport

Cargo iQ phoenix rises from Cargo 2000

March 18, 2016 by PLA Editor

Hitting the ‘reset button’ nearly 20 years after the unfortunately-named cargo quality initiative - Cargo 2000 - was first created, the IATA-supported interest group with the mission of creating and implementing quality standards for the worldwide air cargo industry was officially renamed Cargo iQ at the World Cargo Symposium in Berlin. The rebrand, aside from moving away from the negative imagery of a name that suggests a 16 year lag in reaching its intended goals, is part of a much larger … [Read more...] about Cargo iQ phoenix rises from Cargo 2000

Brussels cargo still depressed over Ethiopian departure

February 8, 2016 by PLA Editor

Brussels Airport (BRU) saw freight volumes declining by 2.4 per cent in January 2016 compared with last year, as a result of the ongoing impact of the departure of Ethiopian Cargo, which did not obtain the necessary traffic rights for Belgium and ceased operations to the airport in the fourth quarter last year. The drop in cargo volume transported through Brussels Airport was attributed to the full-freight segment which dropped 11.5 per cent. The airport continues to struggle to recover from … [Read more...] about Brussels cargo still depressed over Ethiopian departure

Brussels enjoys robust 7.8% cargo growth in 2015

January 13, 2016 by PLA Editor

Brussels Airport wrapped up 2015 with a year of strong growth on both the passenger side (up 7.0 per cent) and cargo with a full 7.8 per cent growth over the previous year thanks to the full freighter and express segments. The growth in freight was an "exceptionally strong result in comparison with other European airports where freight transport has grown only slightly or even decreased,” the airport noted. Belly cargo remained stable in comparison with 2014, but the express services and … [Read more...] about Brussels enjoys robust 7.8% cargo growth in 2015

November 10, 2015 by PLA Editor

Freight volume at Brussels Airport rose in the month of October by 7.3 per cent with the full freight segment showing particularly strong growth of 27.1 per cent, thanks to the arrival of new airlines at Brussels Airport. The suspension of the activities of Ethiopian Airways, is expected to have a negative effect on growth in the coming months however.
