Cargo movements at Singapore Changi Airport in May totalled 153,098 tonnes, an increase of 14.7 per cent on the same month last year. For the Jan-May period, airfreight movements were up 17.3 per cent to 728,794 tonnes. Aircraft movements rose 12.4 per cent, taking the number for May to 22,151 and the total for the five months to 106,177, up 9.6 per cent. Like many airports around the world, Singapore's Changi Airport registered a strong rebound in both cargo and passenger volumes in the last quarter of 2009. Pax numbers fair better than cargo at Changi
Despite the global economic slowdown in the second half of 2008, Singapore Changi Airport handled a higher volume of passenger traffic, with 37.7 million passenger movements handled in 2008, up 2.7 per cent from 2007.
