The first test flight of Boeing’s long-delayed 787 Dreamliner passenger plane will happen by the end of 2009, some two years behind schedule, the company has said. Air Berlin shelves plan to sell Liesure Cargo
Air Berlin, Europe’s third-largest discount carrier said it has shelved plans to sell its standalone cargo unit - Leisure Cargo - after failing to attract a bid that matched the company’s own valuation and said it is reviewing an order for Boeing’s 787s. Boeing announced the conclusion of its acquisition of the business and operations conducted by Vought Aircraft Industries at its South Carolina facility, where a key structure for the 787 Dreamliner is built. The newly acquired facility, located in North Charleston, will be called Boeing Charleston and will be managed by the 787 programme as a wholly owned subsidiary. Boeing's 787 Dreamliner will finally take to the skies later this quarter following its move out of the hangar and onto the flight line last week.
