FedEx to cancel Okay Air contract
FedEx Express, the world's largest express delivery company, is to end its contract with troubled Okay Airways, opting instead for Yangtze River Express, a cargo airline controlled by HNA Group, to maintain its domestic express air network. FedEx targets 20% lower CO2 emissions
FedEx has said it intends to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from its aircraft fleet by 20 per cent by 2020. It said it already has reduced CO2 emissions by 3.7 per cent per ATM since 2005. Key to the efficiency gains will be the replacement of its 90 727Fs with at least 87 757-200 converted freighters by 2016. The 757s will reduce "fuel consumption up to 36 per cent while providing 20 per cent more payload capacity," the group said. FedEx breaks ground on largest solar facility
FedEx Express recently broke ground on its largest solar facility and first outside the US, when it began construction of its new Central and Eastern European gateway at the Cologne/Bonn airport in Germany. The hub is slated for completion in 2010. The facility will be equipped with new ramp, freight and sort facilities with a fullyautomated sort system that will cover a floor space of approximately 50,000 square meters.
