Airlines around the globe lost more than US$6 billion during the first half of the year due to the economic crisis, even as fresh figures showed some signs of recovery in the passenger and freight business, International Air Transport Association (IATA) said this week. IATA: Cargo drop slowed but yield still down
The year long decline in global air cargo slowed in July but revenue and freight rates remain under intense pressure, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said. Cargo volumes fell 11.3 per cent last month from July 2008, compared with a 16.5 per cent year-on-year decline in June and a 19.3 per cent average for the first seven months of the year, it said. IATA: Asia cargo carriers optimistic of rising demand
The latest Airline Business Confidence Index from the International Air Transport Association has indicated carriers in Asia are more optimistic of a stabilisation of profitability over the next twelve months, compared with their counterparts in Europe and North America. A stabilisation of global inventory levels has helped stabilise air freight demand and halted the freefall according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) as it warned that concerns over a swine flu pandemic could have a significant impact on air traffic.
