HIA announces robust year-on-year growth
Hamad International Airport (HIA), Qatar’s Five Star Airport has announced strong year-on-year growth in cargo handling and passenger numbers from January to June of 2017, making this its busiest six month period yet. The airport served 19 million passengers from January to June 2017, 8 per cent more than those served in the same period in the previous year. Doha’s Hamad International Airport (HIA) saw cargo tonnage continue to grow strongly during the first half of 2016 by a full 20.3 per cent year-on-year, totalling 817,792 tonnes, further strengthening HIA’s position as one of the world’s major cargo hubs. Qatar commences Doha-Amsterdam flights
Qatar Airways has commenced services between Amsterdam and Doha with the inaugural flight landing at Schiphol Airport on 16 June, welcomed with a traditional water cannon salute. Air carriers from the Gulf states will not be given new landing rights at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. The Dutch government is citing “unfair competition with Air France-KLM” as the reason for its actions.
