August 29, 2014 by PLA Editor

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) called on the Vietnamese government to work with the air transport sector to strengthen the country’s economy through global air connectivity. IATA identified three broad strategic areas to focus on:  infrastructure, passenger experience and cargo. “Vietnam is a dynamic and rapidly growing aviation market. The successful development of aviation will pay big dividends to the Vietnamese economy. It must be treated as a … [Read more...] about IATA urges Vietnam gov't to support air cargo

Globally, the 240 International Air Transport Association (IATA) member airlines - representing 84 per cent of global air traffic - carried nearly 48 million tonnes of cargo in 2013 of the cargo with freight tonne kilometres up only 1.8 per cent compared to 2012, but never-the-less an important reversal of the 1.1 per cent contraction that 2012 saw over 2011. The top five airlines ranked by total scheduled freight tonnes carried were: Federal Express (7.1 million), UPS Airlines (4.1 … [Read more...] about IATA members carried 48m tonnes of cargo in 2013

Air cargo volume growth slows in June: IATA

August 5, 2014 by PLA Editor

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released data for global air freight markets showing 2.3 per cent growth in demand (measured in freight tonne kilometers) over June 2013, a growth rate that is slower than the 4.9 per cent growth reported for May. Nevertheless, overall growth for the first six months of 2014 stands at 4.1 per cent compared to the same period in 2013. That is much stronger than the weak 1.4 per cent increase reported for the full-year 2013 over 2012 levels, … [Read more...] about Air cargo volume growth slows in June: IATA

Air cargo continues fragile recovery: IATA

December 4, 2013 by PLA Editor

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released figures showing a small improvement in air freight growth in October, with global freight tonne kilometers (FTK) up four per cent compared with October 2012, with growth in all regions except Africa. IATA said the gradual expansion continues a trend that began in the third quarter as air freight markets have responded to better economic confidence and improved consumer demand.  However, performance varies significantly by region, … [Read more...] about Air cargo continues fragile recovery: IATA

Slow cargo uptick in July, Asia still weak

September 4, 2013 by PLA Editor

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced global air cargo traffic results for July showing a continuation of the modest improvement trend experienced in June. Global freight tonne kilometres (FTKs) were up 1.2 per cent in July year-on-year, slightly better than the 0.9 per cent year-on-year increase recorded in June, as growth in Europe and the Middle East offset weakness in Asia. As a result of the July performance, air freight volumes are at their highest level … [Read more...] about Slow cargo uptick in July, Asia still weak

IATA’s June figures offer hope with 1.2% expansion

August 1, 2013 by PLA Editor

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released June figures showing a 1.2 per cent year-on-year expansion in global air freight demand. Although weak, this is a clear improvement when compared to the 0.9 per cent year-on-year demand growth recorded in May and the 0.1 per cent growth realised over the first half of the year. While previously the global economic trend has been defined by robust emerging economies and stagnant growth in developed markets, the strongest improvements … [Read more...] about IATA’s June figures offer hope with 1.2% expansion
