UPS will pay more than US$25 million to settle charges it submitted false claims to the federal government in connection with delivery of Next Day Air overnight packages, the US Department of Justice said. The settlement stemmed from a whisteblower lawsuit filed in federal court in Virginia by former UPS employee Robert K. Fulk. Flag carrier Philippine Airlines has joined other international carriers in banning the shipment of lithium ion batteries due to the potential fire hazards posed by such type of cargo. Cathay, Dragonair April cargo traffic up 5.2%
Cathay Pacific and Dragonair carried 144,579 tonnes of cargo and mail last month, an increase of 5.2 per cent compared to the same month last year. The cargo and mail load factor fell by 0.5 percentage points to 62.6 per cent. Capacity, measured in available cargo/mail tonne kilometres, rose by 7.3 per cent while cargo and mail revenue tonne kilometres (RTKs) flown increased by 6.3 per cent. Turkish Cargo adds Dakar to freighter network
Turkish Cargo has launched weekly freighter services to Senegal's capital, Dakar. The Turkish carrier said the launch marked the 10th freighter service to the continent as part of its expansion plans for Africa, and the 51st freighter destination across the globe. SIA cargo traffic up 4.3% in April
Singapore Airlines reported April cargo traffic (measured in FTK) rose 4.3 per cent year-on-year to 517.3 million, as compared to a 4.7 per cent increase in capacity. Cargo load factor slipped 0.3 percentage points to 61.4 per cent last month. Load factor improved for South West Pacific (5.9 per cent) and West Asia/Africa (3.3 per cent) regions, but fell for East Asia, Americas and Europe, as demand did not keep pace with capacity changes.
