Abu Dhabi airport cargo up 5.7%
Abu Dhabi Airports reported a 5.7 per cent increase in cargo tonnage handled in July 2014 when compared to July 2013, reaching 67,456 tonnes. Aircraft movements reached 13,188, representing a 16.1 per cent increase over the 11,355 movements reported in July 2013 and the airport also recorded a 21.7 per cent increase in passenger traffic at Abu Dhabi International Airport for the month of July. Preliminary traffic figures for the month of July released today by the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) show continued growth in both air freight demand and international passengers. Iceland volcano threatens Eyjafjallajökull repeat
The Icelandic Met Office in mid-August raised its aviation alert level to ‘orange’ as a result of activity in the Bardarbunga volcano, following a major earthquake, the largest in the area since 1996. On the five-color scale, orange sits one level below red, which denotes an active eruption, or one that is imminent.
