Alaska Airlines picks up Virgin America for US$4 billion
Alaska Air Group has snapped up California-based Virgin America for US$4 billion. The combined company would become a major force in the US West Coast region, with hubs in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle and Portland, and a combined fleet of approximately 280 aircraft providing 1,200 daily departures. Alaska Air orders six B737-900ERs
Alaska Airlines’ fleet of Boeing aircraft is growing again. Seattle’s hometown airline is purchasing six more Boeing 737-900 Extended Range aircraft, valued at US$594 million, Boeing’s current list price. Alaska Airlines posted fourth-quarter profits aided by the success of their cargo fleet and an increase in mail.
