Cathay Pacific makes further capacity cuts
Reporting a 22 per cent decline in turnover for the first quarter of 2009, year-on-year, Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. said Thursday that it will cut capacity and ask its staff to take unpaid leave over the course of the next twelve months. Air China eager to set up Shanghai cargo carrier
China's Air China is set to buy East Star Airline and also is negotiating with Cathay Pacific and China Eastern subsidiary China Cargo Air to establish a joint venture cargo airline in Shanghai, according to a report in Chinastakes.com. Cathay Pacific Airways today announced that it will expand its global freighter network with the launch of services to two new destinations in the US. On 6 March, the airline will add Miami and Houston to its list of US freighter destinations, which already includes New York, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, Los Angeles and San Francisco. January continued the downward plunge for Cathay Pacific Airways and Dragonair whose combined traffic figures for the month indicated another hefty fall in cargo and mail tonnage. Cathay gets OK to delay new cargo terminal by 24 mths
Cathay Pacific Airways has announced it has reached an agreement with Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) to delay the completion of its new cargo terminal by up to two years to mid-2013. The terminal had originally been scheduled for opening in the second half of 2011.
