Korean Air widens 4Q losses
The Korean flag carrier posted a KRW272 billion (US$247.5 million) net loss for the fourth quarter of 2014 and a KRW458 deficit for the full year, widened from a KRW57 billion loss recorded in the year-ago period. Boeing and Korean Air finalised an order for five 777 freighters. The order, valued at more than US$1.5 billion at current list prices. Korean Air has announced that commencing 25 February 2015 it will change the current service on its Seoul Incheon - Milan - Rome – Incheon route, to provide direct flights to both Milan and Rome, offering three flights a week to each destination, with Milan increasing to four times a week in March. Korean Air’s vice president Heather Cho has resigned from the airline yesterday following a dispute over a packet of macadamia nuts. Cho, whose family runs Korean Air, caused a stir over was angered that a steward served her macadamia nuts in a bag instead of on a plate. Korean Air 3Q cargo yields on the up
Korean Air registered a 5.7 per cent increase in cargo yield in 3Q 2014 as its load factor rose 2.5 percentage points to 79.1 per cent. Its cargo arm, accounting for 22.1 per cent of total airline revenues in Q3, saw a 10 per cent rise in domestic cargo revenue sales in the three months to September.
