Cargolux reports dire 2009 results

April 30, 2010 by PLA Editor

Cargolux reported a 2009 net loss of US$153 million, nearly triple its $61 million deficit in 2008, with revenue dropping 34 per cent to $1.3 billion as the global air cargo market contracted severely. "2009 was arguably the most difficult year in the history of airfreight," Europe's largest all-cargo airline said in a statement. "The industry registered a decline in freight volume of well over 20 per cent during the year compared to 2008," which led to overcapacity with "dire consequences for … [Read more...] about Cargolux reports dire 2009 results

Thai Airways International

September 1, 2009 by PLA Editor

Thai Airways International has reported a loss in the second quarter of this year because of several negative factors, though the amount was smaller than in the same period last year. The carrier lost US$159 million in the April- June period, compared with a loss of over $271 million a year earlier, when it was badly affected by the oil price spike and a huge foreign-exchange loss. It also wiped out a good part of the net profit of $231.2 million that Thai Airways recorded in the first quarter. … [Read more...] about Thai Airways International

Lufthansa Cargo likely to posts ’09 loss: CEO

April 24, 2009 by PLA Editor

Lufthansa's chief executive said he now foresees a full-year operating loss for the company's cargo business as the global economic crisis continues to depress the air freight market. In 2008 the cargo division posted a €164 million operating profit in 2008, equal to 12 per cent of the group total. "It is apparent that the (cargo) market will remain at this extremely low level," Lufthansa CEO Wolfgang Mayrhuber said at the company's annual shareholders' meeting. Lufthansa Cargo's volumes … [Read more...] about Lufthansa Cargo likely to posts ’09 loss: CEO

IATA ups ’09 forecast with $4.7B industry loss

March 25, 2009 by PLA Editor

Estimated losses for the global air industry are expected to nearly double from December's forecast for 2009 as air carriers grapple with the worst crisis in over 60 years, with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) saying a significant recovery in 2010 would "require more optimism than realism". The IATA has announced a revised outlook for the global air transport industry with losses of US$4.7 billion in 2009, significantly worse than its December forecast of US$2.5 billion in … [Read more...] about IATA ups ’09 forecast with $4.7B industry loss
