The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has revoked the licenses of two Northwest Airlines pilots who flew 150 miles beyond their destination last week as a result of being distracted by a cockpit discussion of airline policy, they claimed . One year postponement for UAL China flights
United Airlines has received permission from the US Transportation Department to delay the start of flights between San Francisco and Guangzhou, China until June 2010 because of the steep drop off in demand. Delta Air Lines lost US$1.4 billion in the fourth quarter of 2008, including a massive one-time special charge related to its merger with Northwest Airlines, along with losses from fuel hedges. Delta aims to trim 2,000 staff
Delta Air Lines, which took over rival Northwest Airlines last year, said it expects about 2,000 staff to opt for early retirement as it aims to trim capacity by up to 8 per cent this year. The latest move by the world's biggest airline highlights a trend among major airlines trying to ride out the global economic recession.
