Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways and its subsidiary Dragonair have reported moderating declines in cargo tonnage with the two carriers uplifting a total 123,860 tonnes of cargo and mail in June, down 10 per cent on June 2008. MASkargo sees 2010 recovery, focuses on charters
Malaysia Airlines Cargo (MASkargo) - which saw a 28 per cent nose dive in cargo volume in the first half year of 2009 year-on-year - has said it expects to see a turnaround of its cargo volumes only in the second half of of next year. Cargo decline slows in June at Frankfurt
Europe’s busiest air cargo hub, Frankfurt airport, has reported a slowing decline in cargo traffic in June. Frankfurt handled 148,211 tonnes of cargo in June, a 16.5 per cent drop from a year earlier that followed year-on-year declines of 17.1 per cent and 24.9 per cent in May and April respectively. Heathrow sees June cargo improvement
London Heathrow reported a drop in cargo traffic of 14.5 per cent in June from a year ago to 103,400 tonnes, an improvement on the 19.2 per cent drop in May. London Stansted, similarly reported a traffic drop of 14.8 per cent in June to 15,271 tonnes, a slight improvement on the 15.4 per cent decline in May. No repeat of May’s up-tick for Lufthansa
Lufthansa Cargo’s freight volumes fell 14.1 per cent in June to 128,000 tonnes from a year ago, similar to other European cargo carriers, but ending a brief burst of optimism in May when its volumes improved to only a -9.1 per cent drop year-on-year. The drop in June volume left traffic in the first six months of the year down 20.1 per cent from the same period last year at 694,000 tonnes. Japan’s two largest airlines saw their declines in international cargo volumes continue to slow in May. Japan Airlines, the country's largest carrier said that its international cargo volume declined for the 10th consecutive month in May, falling 21.7 per cent to 40,079 tonnes, year-on-year, a significant improvement on the 28.7 per cent plummet recorded in April.
