Scoot, the Singapore Airlines long-haul, low-cost carrier (LCC), has announced it will start flying to Europe for the first time next summer. Scheduled to commence on 20 June 2017, the airline will operate non-stop services four times per week between Singapore and Athens using B787-8 equipment. Singapore Airlines pulling out of Brazil
Singapore Airlines will terminate its South American passenger operations from 20 October this year meaning it will no longer offer cargo belly capacity into the Brazilian market. The carrier says its three times weekly Singapore Changi-São Paulo Guarulhos via Barcelona El Prat service has suffered from poor passenger loads in recent months thereby warranting its closure. Virgin Australia shareholders become strange bedfellows
Chinese companies have upped their stake in Virgin Australia Holdings as a second mainland conglomerate bought a stake in the carrier. The Nanshan Group will buy about 20 per cent of Australia’s second-largest airline from Air New Zealand, the Auckland-based carrier said in a statement recently. AirAsia Group said to be considering merging Thai, Indonesian units
Malaysia’s AirAsia Group is said to be considering merging its Thai and Indonesia AirAsia affiliates into one company which would then be listed on both the Thai and Malaysian stock exchanges. Singapore Airlines has taken delivery of its first A350 XWB in Toulouse, France, becoming the fifth operator of the all-new widebody airliner. After an initial period flying on regional services to Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta the aircraft will be deployed on long haul flights from May, starting with Amsterdam and then Dusseldorf.
