Vietnamese carrier Vietjet has placed a firm order with Airbus for the purchase of 30 more A321s (nine A321ceo and 21 A321neo). Vietjet first took to the skies at the end of 2011 and now operates a fleet of 29 A320 Family aircraft including three A321s, on a network covering Vietnam and a growing number of destinations across Asia. VietJet Air launches Myanmar service
The Vietnamese low-cost carrier touched down at Yangon International Airport for the first time this week, marking the start of a new direct service from Ho Chi Minh City. The new service will now depart from Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport five times a week using Airbus 320 aircraft. VietJet has expanded rapidly since launching in late 2011. Vietjet has received the certificate of IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) from the International Air Transportation Association (IATA), putting it in the top 16 per cent of the world’s airlines which have achieved that standard. Vietjet also received an Acknowledgement Certificate from Prime Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Tan Dung for its continuous contributions to the development of Vietnam’s economy and society in recent years. Vietnam-based low-cost carrier (LCC) VietJet Air is looking to expand its north Asian reach using alliances and joint ventures (JV) with other airlines, rather than extend its existing route network.
