IATA growth not quite as good as it seems

October 2, 2009 by PLA Editor

The latest International Air Transport Association (IATA) figures for air cargo show a decline of 9.6 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) in August compared to declines of 11.3 per cent in July and 16.5 per cent in June. But that improving trend is not quite as good as it seems. Remember that it was this time last year when cargo traffic first dipped into negative territory, and so y-o-y comparisons are starting to get better. Comparing traffic figures to 2007 – the peak of the market - … [Read more...] about IATA growth not quite as good as it seems

TNT puts own freighter on HK, Europe route

September 21, 2009 by PLA Editor

Express operator TNT is enhancing its service capacity between China and Europe with the addition of a new dedicated B747-400ER freighter. Non-stop flights will operate between Hong Kong and TNT's European air hub in Belgium. This will allow faster transit times, control and visibility over shipments moving between Asia and Europe, while optimising its costs and fleet utilisation, TNT said. TNT says that with its geographical and economic proximity to the Pearl River Delta and its central … [Read more...] about TNT puts own freighter on HK, Europe route

Air cargo upturn underway, but “fragile”

September 4, 2009 by PLA Editor

Signs of a clear, but fragile recovery in air cargo demand are being driven by companies restocking inventories which have run low, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said on Thursday. But this pick up would remain “fragile” as long as economic recovery is driven by the inventory cycle, and not by increased consumption and business investment, IATA warned. International air freight demand was 11.3 per cent lower in July than the same month in 2008, a considerably … [Read more...] about Air cargo upturn underway, but “fragile”

The Payload interview

September 1, 2009 by PLA Editor

For those who know Nol van Fenema and really, after nearly 26 years in the air cargo industry there aren’t many who don’t know him, this is classic Nol. Confident, yet not entirely overbearing with that ever-present, quick, dry wit with only an occasional hint of sarcasm, the Dutchman has endeared himself to an industry which he came to in 1983 bereft of any substantive cargo knowledge.goes back half a dozen years, first bumping into him at various press conferences when I … [Read more...] about The Payload interview
