Weak Euro economies continue to impact AP, ME cargo
Air freight movement at Asia-Pacific and Middle East airports continued to be impacted by weak economic growth in Europe and slowdown across Asian export markets in May, according to Airports Council International (ACI). HNA Group in talks to acquire Swissport
HNA Group Co., owner of China’s fourth-largest airline, is said to be in talks to acquire ground handler Swissport International Ltd., according to a Bloomberg report quoting unnamed sources. The report said Swissport’s private-equity owner PAI Partners SAS is seeking about US$3 billion from a sale, but negotiations have dragged on for several months, held up by disagreement over the price, according to the sources. National B747F crash from shifting cargo: NTSB
A National Airlines B747-400 freighter that crashed seconds after takeoff from Bagram, Afghanistan, in April 2013, was likely caused by inadequate restraint of large military vehicles being carried onboard which broke loose and went through a bulkhead disabling two hydraulic systems and making the aircraft uncontrollable, according to a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation. Bohai Leasing to take 20% stake in Avolon Holdings
China-based leasing company Bohai Leasing is to buy a 20 per cent stake in Ireland-based Avolon Holdings for US$429 million. A unit of China's aviation and shipping conglomerate HNA Group, Bohai expects the offer to be formally launched by end-July following the approval of its shareholders. The transaction will provide HNA access to a global aircraft leasing market that is currently dominated by GE Capital and AerCap Holdings.
