China's largest carrier, Air China is to purchase the remaining stake in Air China Cargo Co. Ltd, from Capital Airports Holding Company, which holds a 24 per cent share of Air China Cargo, for an estimated 798 million yuan. Cathay Pacific Airways has joined many of its counterparts in reporting huge fuel-hedging losses, plunging the previously profitable Asian carrier into an expected record loss for last year, the South China Morning Post reported. Air China says it carried 68,000 tonnes of cargo in August, down 4.1 per cent on August 2007. Its eight month rolling comparison for the year was 552,384 tonnes, little changed from the same period of 2007.
