B787 problems force A330 freighter delay

January 9, 2009 by Payload Asia

Ongoing production delays of Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner passenger aircraft is resulting in customers looking to Airbus passenger aircraft as a replacement which is forcing Airbus to postpone production of its freighters. Setbacks in technical development and an eight-week strike by machinists that ended only in November, has pushed delivery of the 787 to two years behind schedule, costing Boeing an estimated US$2 billion. But for carriers still needing passenger capacity despite the tough … [Read more...] about B787 problems force A330 freighter delay

Delta to fiddle with Boeing orders following NW integration

December 1, 2008 by Payload Asia

Delta Air Lines, which bought Northwest Airlines in October, plans to make major changes to aircraft orders both had previously placed with Boeing, according to The Wall Street Journal. Delta is likely to scale back a Northwest order for Boeing's new, but delayed, 787 Dreamliner, and ask the manufacturer to expand a Delta order for the 777-200LR aircraft. The 777-200LR would better enable the combined carrier to continue pursuing Delta's strategy to shift a greater percentage of its flights to … [Read more...] about Delta to fiddle with Boeing orders following NW integration

Americas : Boeing strike deadlock more bad news

November 1, 2008 by Payload Asia

Airlines waiting for Boeing aircraft deliveries have no immediate hope in sight as the strike at the US planemaker’s Everett assembly plant near Seattleappears no closer to a resolution. This follows the adjournment of a second round of mediated talks between Boeing and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, which ended without agreement. About 27,000 Boeing workers in Washington, Oregon and Kansas have been on strike since September 6. “In light of … [Read more...] about Americas : Boeing strike deadlock more bad news

Americas : American makes dramatic B787 order

November 1, 2008 by Payload Asia

Defying the global economic slowdown and resultant airline industry malaise, not to mention labour turmoil and delayed 787 production at Boeing’s key Everett production facility, American Airlines has signed a massive B787 purchase agreement, encompassing up to 100 aircraft. Analysts say the fact that American is willing to commit to a widebody investment of this scale is a sign of the carrier’s confi dence in its business plan. The move appears part of the carrier’s … [Read more...] about Americas : American makes dramatic B787 order

Boeing

November 1, 2008 by Payload Asia

Boeing and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers reached tentative agreement on a new four-year contract covering 27,000 employees in Washington, Oregon and Kansas. Union leadership is recommending that employees vote to ratify the contract. The company retained the flexibility necessary to manage its business, while making changes to the contract language to address the union’s issues on job security, pay and benefits. The offer provides general wage increases … [Read more...] about Boeing

Americas: Boeing production still idle from ongoing strike

October 1, 2008 by Payload Asia

Boeing and the International Association of Machinists union appear far apart and unwilling to compromise to settle a strike, both sides indicate as the strike enters its second month. With a strike by Boeing machinists idling some 27,000 workers since early September, the company looks set for serious delivery delays to an already stretched production schedule. Protracted strike action will have a serious effect on delivery of Boeing’s record backlog. As of 31 July it had 3,695 … [Read more...] about Americas: Boeing production still idle from ongoing strike
