Average air freight prices out of Asia fell 10.3 per cent in June from the month before as airlines brought capacity back into the market, according to the latest Drewry Air Freight Rate Index, by London-based Drewry Shipping Consultants. TNT boosts China/Europe capacity
TNT is increasing its air freight capacity between China and Europe to meet growing demand, especially from the high-tech and fashion industries, with an additional B747-400ERF aircraft between China and its European air hub in Liege, Belgium. Air France-KLM Cargo said it will strengthen its position in the Japanese market by reinstating freighter flights from CDG-Paris and by operating three additional Combi flights from SPL-Amsterdam on commercially high-demanding days. Sri Lankan Airlines has slashed flights to India from 100 a week to 51, as part of a cost-cutting strategy and re-aligning of services to conserve cash and maximise yields, the carrier's CEO Manoj Gunawardena said recently. SkyCargo grows cargo capacity by 17%
Fueled by existing orders for new aircraft, Dubai's Emirates SkyCargo will grow the number of flights across its network by 14 per cent this year and increase cargo capacity by 17 per cent. Weekly cargo capacity will increase by approximately four per cent to Australia, 10 per cent to Europe, 17 per cent to the Middle East, 15 per cent to Africa. Delta aims to trim 2,000 staff
Delta Air Lines, which took over rival Northwest Airlines last year, said it expects about 2,000 staff to opt for early retirement as it aims to trim capacity by up to 8 per cent this year.
