Japan Airlines parent JAL Group reported a net loss of Â¥38.5 billion (US$428 million) for its fiscal third quarter ended 31 December, reversing a Â¥13.1 billion net profit in the same period a year earlier, citing declining demand, rising yen and volitile fuel prices. JAL opts in for Japan emissions trading trial
The JAL Group has announced it will voluntarily participate in trials of a Japan-only emissions trading scheme set up by the Japanese government. The trial scheme runs from FY2008 to FY2012, the financial years ending March 31. Companies that volunteer to participate in the scheme must set themselves CO2 emission reduction targets for their business operations in Japan for every financial year during the 5-year period. Direct maindeck cargo capacity between Japan and New York will be nonexistent come this January as NCA and JAL cargo both scale back transpacificcapacity.
