Akbar Al Baker, group chief executive for Qatar Airways, held a press conference in Washington D.C. last week, adding the airline's voice to the ongoing US Open Skies debate. During his visit, Al Baker also met with government officials and prepared for upcoming US launches to Los Angeles, Boston, and Atlanta. Air cargo CO2 emissions to increase 411% by 2050

February 10, 2015 by PLA Editor

The global air cargo market reported impressive growth last year, marking the first upswing in the market following a long period of stagnation. The result, fear many environmentalists, will lead not merely to the growth of the global air cargo market but also contribute significantly to the increase in CO2 emissions. Analysts predict that more emissions will be produced from freight cargo than passengers by 2050. The International Transport Forum (ITF) has provided figures estimating that … [Read more...] about Air cargo CO2 emissions to increase 411% by 2050

Korean pulls out of SkyTeam cargo alliance

October 22, 2009 by PLA Editor

Korean Air has terminated its involvement in the SkyTeam joint venture cargo sales alliance that had been formed with SkyTeam partners Delta and Air France. The Asian carrier's withdrawal effectively ended the joint venture after Delta Cargo decided to pull out late last year. Korean will now sell its cargo capacity in the US and Canadian market through its own offices following a revamp of its sales network creating one western and one eastern division. … [Read more...] about Korean pulls out of SkyTeam cargo alliance

Air France/KLM and Delta do transatlantic deal

May 20, 2009 by PLA Editor

A new transatlantic joint venture between Air France-KLM and Delta Air Lines will boost each partner's profits by up to US$150 million, the two airlines said recently. Air France-KLM CEO Pierre-Henri Gourgeon said the 13-year agreement to pool revenue and costs for flights between Europe and the US, and to cooperate closely on many other flights, will significantly lift both carriers' revenues while cutting costs. The deal will also mean that Delta is back in the cargo business only weeks after … [Read more...] about Air France/KLM and Delta do transatlantic deal

Delta to fiddle with Boeing orders following NW integration

December 1, 2008 by PLA Editor

Delta Air Lines, which bought Northwest Airlines in October, plans to make major changes to aircraft orders both had previously placed with Boeing, according to The Wall Street Journal. Delta is likely to scale back a Northwest order for Boeing's new, but delayed, 787 Dreamliner, and ask the manufacturer to expand a Delta order for the 777-200LR aircraft. The 777-200LR would better enable the combined carrier to continue pursuing Delta's strategy to shift a greater percentage of its flights to … [Read more...] about Delta to fiddle with Boeing orders following NW integration
