Lufthansa is scaling back operations to Russia, as it discontinues three destinations from Frankfurt to Samara, Nizhny Novgorod and Moscow Vnukovo as the routes have become unprofitable. The German airlines will operate the last flights to Samara and Nizhny Novgorod September 6 and 7, respectively. The last Frankfurt-Moscow Vnukovo service is planned for August 30. Lufthansa, ANA to launch joint Europe-Asia service
Lufthansa Cargo and All Nippon Airways Cargo will launch joint freight services from Europe to Japan on August 3, eight months after they joined forces on the westbound route. Both airlines are expanding their joint venture for freight consignments to routes from Europe to Japan. Munich airport sets record tonnages
Munich airport saw total 2014 cargo volumes increase eight per cent over prior year to a record 291,000 tons. When airmail is included, the cargo volume handled at the Bavarian hub exceeded 309,000 tons, with 85 per cent being bellyhold cargo on intercontinental flights. An A320 belonging to Lufthansa's Germanwings budget carrier has crashed in a remote snowy area of the French Alps on Tuesday with all 150 on board feared dead. Cargo Human Care e.V. (CHC) set a new medical care record last year: local nurses in Kenya and German doctors treated patients around 22,500 times for the humanitarian and medical aid project in 2014.
