The latest variant of Airbus' A330 – the new 242 tonne MTOW A330-300 – has achieved certification from the European airworthiness authorities (EASA) following a 100 hour flight-test campaign. Certification from the US authorities (FAA) is also expected soon. Airbus said that in the near future, the smaller A330-200 model will follow the -300 by benefiting from the 242t take-off weight capability. India’s state-run Airports Authority of India (AIA) announced that it will build cargo terminals at 24 airports, subject to feasibility studies. In its latest cargo briefing report, the AIA says the facilities will be developed over the next couple of years. AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC) is extending its global network to Vietnam with the launch of twice-weekly freighter services from Hanoi, starting on 1 April, 2015. The flights depart Hanoi every Wednesday and Saturday bound for ABC’s hub at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport via Hong Kong. Virgin Atlantic to trial UK pet travel scheme
Virgin Atlantic Cargo is to partner the City of London’s Heathrow Animal Reception Centre (HARC) to trial a pre-check service for pets landing in the UK on the airline’s flights. The service aims to comfort pet owners by eliminating stress caused by the uncertainty of not knowing if their pets will meet the entry requirements of the UK Pet Travel Scheme. Qatar to increase capacity to Bengaluru
Qatar’s national airline is continuing its expansion plans in India with a significant increase in capacity on its flights from Doha to Bengaluru from 1 August 2015. Currently Qatar Airways operates a B787 on the Doha-Bengaluru route. Starting 1 August, the Doha-Bengaluru route operated by B787 will be replaced by a B777.
