DHL expands network with Aerologic
DHL has expanded its air network with an Aerologic route linking the UAE to Asia and Europe. Aerologic, the joint venture cargo airline of DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo, will operate a B777F flight between Leipzig and Hong Kong with a connection in Sharjah, the third largest emirate of the UAE. Lufthansa Cargo boosts volume 13.8%
Lufthansa Cargo boosted freight traffic by 13.8 per cent in April from a year ago despite a five-day shutdown of its Frankfurt hub. The German carrier handled 129,000 tonnes of cargo compared with 113,000 tonnes in April 2009, taking volume for the first four months to 520,000 tonnes compared to 441,000 tonnes in the same period a year ago. Lufthansa reports 2009 net loss of US$151 million
Lufthansa has reported a net loss of US$151 million in 2009, but said it achieved its goal of an operating profit. The loss, which followed a $732 million profit in 2008, was largely the result of sharply lower cargo volumes and a decline in higher paying premium passengers. Operating profit plunged 90 per cent to a better-than-expected $175.5 million from $1.76 billion a year ago on revenue down 10 per cent at $30.1 billion. Lufthansa and Austrian to merge cargo units
Lufthansa Cargo and Austrian Airlines have agreed to step up cooperation between their two companies in the airfreight sector with a new agreement, that will see their global distribution activities merged and their product portfolios and production processes harmonized.
